It is a very common event in everyone’s life to see swollen or bleeding gums when you get up to brush your teeth. This problem with your gums, due to inflammation is called Gingivitis. At least one member in every household would be suffering from this problem. If is not treated at the nick of time it can aggravate to become a serious gum disease like peiodontitis. Gingivitis is a form of periodontal disease wherein you suffer inflammation as well as infection of gums.

Plaque is a sticky film made up of bacteria. It is found on your teeth when sugar and starch in your food comes in contact with the bacteria primarily found in your mouth. Plaque once removed can be easily formed within 24 hrs. When these sticky films of plaque are not removed on time they harden under your gum line to form tartar. Not maintaining simple oral hygiene is one of the main causes of gingivitis. If proper care is taken you can avoid the plaque deposits, which are long term effects of gingivitis.

Gingivitis is one of the major causes of tooth decay. The combination of plaque and tartar can irritate your gums causing gingiva. Gums get terribly damaged due to bacteria and toxin bacteria making it swollen and tender (a reason for bleeding gums).

There are different levels of gingivitis varying from mild, moderate and severe. Anybody to everybody is affected by this problem. It is said to develop during the time of puberty or when there is an increase in hormones i.e. during early period of adulthood. This mainly depends how sound your teeth and gums are.

Diabetes increases your chances of having gingivitis. Having dry mouth increases the risk of gum disease. Having a weak immunity can also cause this problem to arise. To avoid such a face off with death, proper oral hygiene would help you in the long run.

Common Signs and Symptoms

-Suffering with mouth sores
-Swollen gums
-Bleeding gums while brushing
-Tender/soft gums
-Change in color of the gums

Basic Preventive Measures

-Maintaining good oral hygiene
-Brush your teeth twice a day
-Floss your teeth
-Avoid too much sweet and starchy food
-Eat more fruits and vegetables
-Get dental check-up twice in a year

Home Remedies you can try

A mixture of baking soda with little water should be applied on your gums with your finger. Once this is done, brush your teeth to remove the bacterial waste for sparkling effect.

Mix 3% solution of Hydrogen peroxide with equal amounts of water. Swish, not swallow, this solution in your mouth for 30 seconds. This helps to kill the bacteria.

You can brush your gums and teeth with Aloe Vera gel for better effects. It helps in reduction of plaque formation as well as works as a healing agent.

This occurrence can be both embarrassing and troubling to many who suffer from the airborne nuisance. There are different types of bad breath, which occur for different reasons and therefore require different treatments.

Temporary bad breath is commonly caused by a dry mouth, poor oral hygiene, certain types of food and/or smoking. Any one or a combination of these can result in bad breath. Another common type of temporary bad breath is known as morning breath, which occurs first thing in the morning as an individual opens his/her eyes. Chronic bad breath is often caused by certain medical conditions, medications and/or oral buildup.

The determination of bad breath is often made by the person who suffers from it. A dryness or pasty feeling in the mouth and/or an unpleasant taste are both symptoms of bad breath. The best way for a quick, and temporary, relief is to drink a glass of water. This will restore moisture in the mouth and will help to provide some fast results.

The treatment for bad breath may include regular dental visits and proper cleaning, brushing 2 to 3 times daily or after every meal, regular flossing, a change in food consumption and/or diet regimen. In addition, many bad breath sufferers find that brushing the tongue will help to rid the mouth of bacteria that could later lead to a foul odor. Unfortunately for many who suffer from chronic bad breath due to an illness or necessary medication, the only plan of action against bad breath is to mask the problem as effectively as possible. A mouthrinse, chewing gum or breath freshener may help to reduce the noticeability of bad breath.

Anyone who suffers from bad breath may wish to carry a packet of chewing gum, breath mints and/or breath spray for quick relief. In the event that it isn’t always possible to brush after every meal, such as often the case when dining at work or with colleagues, these items will help to mask any odor until the individual is able to properly cleanse their mouth.

The information contained in this article is to be used for reference only. It is not to be used in place of, or in conjunction with, professional medical advice. Anyone who suffers from bad breath that cannot be eliminated with the above methods, or whose condition seems to worsen, should consult a physician for proper diagnosis and/or treatment.

Gum disease, or periodontal disease is not an enjoyable experience! If you want to avoid gum disease, or if you already have it and want to fight it, read this article.

Symptoms of Gum Disease

How do you know if you have gum disease? Here are some of the symptoms you should look for. Often you will notice inflammation of the gums and mouth – soreness, bleeding, and/or redness. Another common symptom is bed breath (a.k.a. <a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/cure-bad-breath/halitosis"class="ld_link" target=" " title="Halitosis">Halitosis), and / or a bad taste in your mouth. Other signs of gum disease include shaky or loose teeth, receding gums, and spaces between the teeth and gums.

Cause Of Gum Disease

What causes gum disease? Quite simply, gum disease is caused by bacteria growing in your mouth. These bacteria normally begin growing on particles of food left in your mouth. The infection then continues to grow, causing inflammation and breakdown of the gums and mouth.

Prevention Of Gum Disease

Gum disease can be prevented by discouraging the growth of bacteria in the mouth. Proper dental hygiene goes a long way in preventing bacteria growth in the mouth. Also helpful is a healthy diet low in refined sugars and other foods that make perfect bacteria fodder.

Treatment of Gum Disease

If you already have Gum Disease, there are several ways to treat it. The first and seemingly most common is a professional cleaning. A periodontist will clean your mouth to remove the plaque, etc that harbors the bacteria causing the disease. Drugs may also be used to treat gum disease. Recently, several natural treatments have been developed for gum disease as well.

Hopefully, the information in this article will have given you the information that you need to prevent and / or treat gum disease, also known as periodontal disease. Trust me when I say that you don’t want to get gum disease – it’s worth preventing, and prevention is simple when you follow the steps outlined in this article!

Does this sound familiar to you? My dentist and hygienist mentioned that I had irritated gums as they cleaned my teeth. This is a symptom of gingivitis.

Gingivitis can be a stepping stone to major problems in the mouth and gum line. It can lead to periodontal disease, which is a much more serious problem with the potential for actual bone loss.

<a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/cure-bad-breath/halitosis"class="ld_link" target=" " title="Halitosis">Halitosis (bad breath) could be related to a gingivitis infection as both are caused by bacteria. Red, swollen and/or bleeding gums characterize gingivitis. These symptoms are most evident upon flossing and sometimes from brushing.

Bacteria cause gingivitis. And bacteria are considered to be responsible for <a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/"class="ld_link" target=" " title="bad breath">bad breath.

Sometimes, I could even see the bloodstains that the hygienist quietly wiped away with a towel. It was embarrassing enough to know that I wasn’t controlling my gingivitis problem, but to know that she was actually trying not to make a big deal out of it was troubling.

I knew my dentist was concerned because she gave me a bottle of alcohol based mouthwash to try and mentioned that she wanted to see how I looked next time. I don’t like using it; there is too much alcohol and the taste is not very pleasant. Alcohol may also dry the mucous membranes in the mouth.

The Problem

Bacteria can stick to your teeth and secrete acid onto them contributing to cavity formation. They can also infect the gums, particularly around the gum line, causing gingivitis. This can manifest initially as bleeding and irritated gums.

Having a lot of uncontrolled bacteria multiplying in the mouth may also lead to bad breath, but there is a natural and normal amount of bacteria in the mouth, and you will never completely get rid of them all, nor would you want to.

Theory has it that it is actually the anaerobic bacteria that live in the tongue and throat that produce sulfur that in turn produce hard to get rid of bad breath. These anaerobes create VSCs or volatile sulfur compounds. One type is the familiar rotten egg smell. There are other odors coming from VSCs as well. These sulfur-producing bacteria may feed on certain foods, like coffee, alcohol and meats.

A gingivitis problem can offer a way for bacteria to easily enter your blood stream and that can lead to additional problems. Systemic infections could come from this. Gingivitis can be something that makes your gums bleed easily in a mild case or it can be the root of deep gum recession, leading to bone loss in the worse case scenarios. (Periodontal disease)

Loss of gum line can be discouraging. A friend of mind once described the process as, “getting long in the tooth”. Sometimes, people experience this problem by brushing too hard. TIP: Using a soft bristled toothbrush with the type of motion that your hygienist recommends may help prevent eroded gum lines.

Treatment and Prevention

Had you ever heard of under-the-gum cleanings? This could be part of the protocol your dentist might invoke, should you develop periodontal disease. If you know people that have had an under-the-gum cleaning; they may tell you that it is not very pleasant.

Your dentist can deal with this problem in a variety of ways. However, prevention probably is the best option. Include good flossing and brushing habits – see your dentist for details. And you could add a non-alcohol based mouthwash alternative to your regimen.

I’m currently using a special toothbrush that uses vibration to clean the teeth. This device does a better job than a regular toothbrush in keeping my teeth clean. It does take a little while to get used to because of the vibration. It makes many, many vibrations per second. This helps to give it such wonderful cleaning abilities.

Don’t feel sad if you have excellent oral health habits but you still have bad breath. This is common and many people experience this same situation. Oral health products that don’t contain sodium lauryl sulfates or artificial flavors that can still kill the bacteria that cause bad breath without using harsh alcohol or tough chemicals may be helpful.

I am not a dentist. This article is for information purposes only. This article is not meant for diagnosis, treatment or prevention nor is it meant to give advice. If you have or suspect you have gingivitis, periodontal disease or any other dental problems, visit your dentist for a consultation.

It restricts people from leading a normal life. Have you ever shied away from a conversation because you knew you had bad breath ? Or have you ever cut a conversation short because the person you spoke to had bad breath ? There wouldn’t be a person on the planet who hasn’t. Bad breath is a social turn-off.

And it doesn’t just restrict people in their social lives, it has far-reaching ramifications for Business people who deal face-to-face with customers. I mean, what chance does a Salesperson have when they have bad breath ? I bet they would have a better chance of closing a deal if they had fresh clean breath.

There is a massive misconception about what really causes halitosis. Some definitions point towards poor oral hygiene, general neglect of the teeth, periodontal disease (gum disease), deeply furrowed tongue, sinus infection, tonsillitis, diet, drying of oral tissues, digestive problems, smoking, systemic diseases, lung or sinus infection, uremia, or cirrhosis of the liver, helminthiasis (intestinal parasitic infections), diabetes, kidney failure, sinusitis, tonsilloliths, gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD), trimethylaminuria (TMAU), hormonal changes, and a wide variety of prescription drugs……..

There are volumes and volumes of studies and reports on what causes halitosis, and what fixes halitosis, and there are hundreds, if not thousands of so-called solutions for treating bad breath. Gum, Breath mints, breath strips and mouthwash are NOT the answer. They are just part of a multibillion-dollar-a-year industry which provide a very short ‘mask’ for the real cause. Did you know that most commercial mouthwashes contain more alcohol than a six-pack of beer?, or did you know that most commercial toothpastes contain a ‘soap’ that actually dries out your mouth?

But when it comes down to pure logic and basic sense, there appears to be just one stand-out proponent of a bad-breath ‘fix’, and the evidence to support this is so simple to understand. Dr. Harold Katz proposes that bad breath (halitosis) is caused by the reaction of (i) naturally occurring bacteria in your mouth with (ii) certain proteins that are found in foods we eat, as well as in mucus/phlegm, blood and broken-down oral tissues. And that’s it.

The bacteria that is found in our mouths is necessary for the initial stages of digesting the foods we consume. But sometimes the reaction of these bacteria and certain proteins will result in the odorous sulfur compounds being present in our mouths, and these compounds cause bad breath. Dr Katz calls these “volatile sulfur compounds” (VSC), and the ‘fix’ is quite complex, but at the same time it is simple. What you obviously need to do is stop the bacteria/protein mix from creating the odorous VSC. The way this is done is by adding “oxygen” to the environment they live in (tongue/throat). By adding oxygen, the end result is the formation of a “Sulfate”, which has no odor or taste.

If this all sounds too scientific, then you need to read the FREE Bad Breath Bible. This ebook explains bad breath in simplistic terms, and demonstrates just how simple a bad breath solution can be. The solution can be as simple as changing from a soap-filled toothpaste that dries your mouth out, to one that actually assists in converting odorous sulfur compounds into odor-free/taste-free sulfate. You brush your teeth everyday, so it’s not like you will need to change you habits to enjoy this bad breath solution.

Poor oral hygiene leads to <a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/"class="ld_link" target=" " title="bad breath">bad breath and the social ostracising of a child. People are not usually aware that they have bad breath and it is not something that one can mention, even to a friend, without causing offence.

Once anyone is conscious that their breath may smell they become very aware of how they speak and how close they are standing to other people. This unhealthy attitude is so easy to avoid by teaching your children good oral hygiene.

Milk teeth are replaced by adult teeth by the time a child is about 8 years old. The final adult teeth, the wisdom teeth, may appear 10 years later, or may only partially erupt from their gums. Good teeth habits need to start early. These basically include brushing teeth, cutting down on sweet foods and visiting the dentist regularly.

Good teeth, or at least well fitting dentures are essential for comfortable speech and eating. Lots of people have come to assume that bright white teeth are the only good teeth – Not so.

Dentist’s visits are no longer the source of fear for children that they were for their parents or grandparents. Dentists are generally pleasant, if over-paid, professionals. They try their hardest to make their surgery pleasant and relaxing, especially for children.

A large percentage of 11 year old children already have fillings in their teeth. These fillings have a life of 5-10 years, so these individuals will be visiting the dentist regularly for life. Some children have no fillings whatsoever, and this is not because their parents are any more successful in teaching dental hygiene. My own daughter is 19, she eats chocolate and sweets like there is no tomorrow, has thin enamel on her back teeth, cleans her teeth somewhat minimally once a day and she still has no fillings! Just lucky.

The orthodontist and dental braces are feared by parents and children alike. The “Jaws” appearance of some braces leads children to fear name-calling and loss of opportunity with the opposite sex. Parents worry about the cost of all that metalwork.

There are many more ortho-dontal options than there ever were just a few years ago. Do your research, find out your options and do your best for your kids’ long-term health.

So why do we get <a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/"class="ld_link" target=" " title="bad breath">bad breath and how the heck can we get rid of it? These are two very common and very important questions that we have all had to ask ourselves at some time or another. The reason it is such an important thing to figure out is that it is so much a part of who we are. It affects our confidence with people and our reputation around people. Talking is such a part of our daily life and if we have bad breath we are either not talking for fear that someone will find out how nasty we are or we are embarrassing or offending those we are talking to. Bad breath is also not only offensive to others, it carries with it a taste that is offensive to the owner as well.

Now it is one thing to have bad breath once in a while or in the morning before we brush our teeth. This kind of problem is easily remedied with simple hygiene. But can you imagine (and some of you can) having bad breath chronically and so bad that simply brushing your teeth or avoiding spicy food at lunch is not enough. Well some people have to live with this nightmare called chronic <a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/cure-bad-breath/halitosis"class="ld_link" target=" " title="halitosis">halitosis.

So if you are one of these people you need to first know that there are very good remedies to most people’s cases of bad breath that are worse than normal. First you should go see your dentist which is pretty obvious. You see bad body odors in general are secondary to the growth of microorganisms (bacteria, yeast, etc.) that are producing noxious fumes as a byproduct of their metabolisms. It is always important to go and see that you don’t have a major infection that is causing the rotten (literally!) smell in your mouth.

Often however there isn’t a huge cavity or pharyngeal abscess to explain the terrible smells and because the etiology is less obvious the solution is less obvious as well. Killing the bacteria is still the name of the game though and it just because people with chronic bad breath were unlucky enough to have gotten a particularly smelly strain of bacteria.

How do you do this? Well in several ways. One is to brush your teeth more often like every time you have food. Another is to get in the habit of brushing your tongue. Another is to buy a good mouth wash that kills the bacteria. Then lastly and maybe not so obvious is eating yogurt. You see yogurt contains a bacteria that lives well in the body and is very benign in terms of bad effects. If you do these things you may just find that your bad breath takes a hike.

You have probably discretely stepped away from friends or colleagues with Halitosis (bad breath). But it can also be a shock to realize that others, for the same reason, may be edging (discretely) away from you!

How can you know if your breath is offensive?

Try this simple Halitosis test:
Lick the inside of your wrist and wait 4 seconds. Now smell your wrist. If you don’t like what smell, your breath does not smell good either. Easy, no? An accurate and portable diagnosis!

I have a friend who is a sensitive person. We were sitting at a table and I asked him how his day was. He said OK, but his breath was bad and his stomach seemed upset. After I asked a few more questions he finally let on he that he’d had an argument with his employer. As he was telling his story he drank the big glass of water I had given him. And as soon as he’d unburdened his feelings and the water was gone… so was his <a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/"class="ld_link" target=" " title="bad breath">bad breath/ halitosis. The moral of this story… dehydration and emotional issues can both affect our breath.

What causes Halitosis?

• Not enough water in your body, dehydration.
• Gum or tooth problems/ disease
• Intestinal/ stomach disorders, yeast infection
• Use of medications
• Stress

Certain foods also cause Halitosis such as onions, coffee, and garlic. Too much spice also creates bad odor. Some of these smells may not leave your breath even after 72 hours of digestion. So reducing the intake of these products may help in some form and you may have a much tolerable breathe.

I could go on and on about the distinct varieties of Halitosis smells among those who drink alcohol, who smoke, who have diabetes, internal bleeding, liver diseases, or cancer. But I will spare you the unsavory details. The point is to focus on clean breath, and to heal the underlying causes of Halitosis, which will give you better health and more enjoyment of your life. By welcoming Halitosis as an opportunity to take preventive measures, you will be doing yourself a world of good

Have you got dragon breath ? Overtly , it is sort of possible for anybody to have dragon breath, yet not be conscious of it. The explanation for this is due to our body own acclimation whereby our noses filter the odour that lies in the back of our mouth, making it troublesome for someone to see their own mouth odour.

To truly know whether if you suffer with <a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/"class="ld_link" target=" " title="bad breath">bad breath, try the following five tests and learn if you have bad mouth odour. One. Stand in front of the mirror and stick your tongue out so far as possible. If you detect that the back of your tongue is whitish, it could be a sign that you have bad mouth odour.

Two. Another simple and convenient test you can do anywhere is to lick the back of your hand, wait for the spit to dry and then smell it. If you smell a bad odour, you will have dog breath.

Three. To test for <a href="http://www.howtocurebadbreathblog.com/cure-bad-breath/halitosis"class="ld_link" target=" " title="halitosis">halitosis, you may run a chunk of dental floss between your back teeth and then smell the floss. If you can smell an odour from a distance, it’d be a good indicator of the level of odours that other people might note when chatting with you. Four. One fast strategy that dentists use to check for dragon breath that you may also try at home is to wipe the top surface of the tongue with a bit of cotton swab and then smelling the odour on the cotton. If the cotton swab also produce a yellowish stain after you wipe your tongue, it’s likely you have got a high concentration of unstable sulfuric compounds ( VSC ), an indication of protracted halitosis. Five. If at all possible, one of the finest and most truthful paths to test whether if you have bad mouth odour is to ask the opinion of someone close to you or whom you can have faith in. The truth might be ugly but the answer will certainly be a truthful one. Terrible breath is a typical condition, which the general public associate with bad oral cleanliness. it may also be due to an underlying health problem. One of these conditions is sinus related issues. If you suspect sinusitis is the reason for your breath odour problem you want to comprehend the link between the condition and halitosis to help you exterminate your halitosis. One of the most significant reasons for folk with sinus issues developing halitosis is that the mucus produced acts as a breeding zone for bacteria. This is especially true if you have developed a post nasal drip.

The only possible way to fully cure the sinus related halitosis is to treat your sinusitis, that may need a visit to your doctor. Once your physician has helped cure the sinus problem, or at least reduced the frequency and power of the symptoms, your breath odour problem should begin to reduce.

It will take one or two weeks to go utterly, and it is particularly necessary to maintain high standards of oral cleanliness in this time. It isn’t just a surplus of phlegm feeding bacteria which can lead sinusitus sufferers to develop dog breath. Another leading cause of unpleasant breath is a dry mouth, as with a lack of the neutralising spit comes an increased capability for bacteria to spread. Sinusitus is sometimes treated with antihistamines, a typical side-effect of which is a dry mouth. You can counterbalance the consequences of the dry mouth by staying well hydrated. This must be water as caffeine and alcohol worsen breath odour, and sweet drinks, including fruit juices, are a gigantic allow for gum illness and other dental problems which are a gigantic contributing factor to halitosis.

If you would like to circumvent the side-effects of taking medicine for sinus issues, there are natural techniques of treating your condition. There are tablets and sprays available that may not fix your sinus issues utterly, but will relieve the symptoms significantly. Nasal irrigation is beginning to become more popular as it is effective for the general public. Devices appropriate for this is often instantaneously purchased from a chemist or net provider. Regular use of nasal irrigation not only decreases the possibility of enduring an attack of sinusitis, but also eases post nasal drips. If you’re still going through dog breath a few weeks after treating your sinusitis, make a journey to your dental hygienist. Even minor oral problems, like a little plaque build up or tiny periodontal pockets, can help keep up a halitosis problem.
